Meet Tonya Thomas

Good Morning, I am writing to you about my experience with Brooksville’s Head Start/Early Head Start Program. Ms. Jennifer Hanner is the site supervisor. She greets everyone with a smile, opens doors and gates for you, and has a very welcoming personality. Having a supervisor with these qualities helps create the amazing employees you have at this facility. I have had children at this location starting back in 1999, then again in 2019, and now starting in 2024. Everyone I run into says hello, good morning, and offers to help you when they see you need it. Even the lovely staff that bring our kiddos their meals. Everyone is amazing! There are a few people for whom we are extremely thankful. These ladies have made our experience at this facility exceptional, and these are the reasons why: First, I want to thank Ms. Irene. She has always been available for me, helps me when I need it, never makes me feel like I am bothering her, and always smiles. She helps answer my questions, and if she doesn’t have the answer, she finds it or directs me to the person that can answer my questions. Second, Ms. Melrose and Ms. Norma They are always happy, positive, and caring. They are very understanding and treat their kiddos as if they are theirs. I always feel comfortable leaving Minniah in their care, even when transitions and separation are exceedingly difficult for her. There is not a day that goes by that they don’t greet you with a smile. They are readily available to help comfort Minniah when I am leaving and very understanding regarding Minniah’s social struggles. They provide a lot of opportunities for her to experience sensory play and are always trying to get her to be more social. They send me a lot of photos, which always makes my day ❤️. Third, Ms. Audrey and Mrs. Kylie. Where do I start? My Ariana is not the go-with-the-flow type of girl; she is always trying to do her own thing. She was recently diagnosed with Autism and requires a tremendous amount of assistance to Follow through with simple tasks. These wonderful teachers go above and beyond to ensure Aria’s needs are met. Whether it’s assisting her to follow through with tasks, ensuring she eats before leaving for outpatient therapies, or helping her transition to a better sleeping schedule, they have changed their classroom schedule and how they operate throughout the day to accommodate her. They give me a thorough evaluation of her day and are always looking for ways to help. Forth, Ms. Diana Having children with special needs or even children that need extra support is hard. Ms. Diana has always been available and willing to accommodate the needs of my kiddos to ensure they can receive the services they need to succeed. She has always been quick to respond and always has a positive attitude. Whether it is ABA or OT, she has helped our family receive these services and still attend school. These services are extremely important for children with Autism, and Ms. Diana has made it possible for my kiddos to have these services in the classroom. Lastly, Mrs. Sue and Mrs. Mayra I am looking forward to Jahkai’s school year with them. They seem exceedingly kind and caring. I’m thankful for their support in having ABA assist Jahkai in the classroom. They always greet Jahkai and make sure he transitions and separates from me the best way they can. Jahkai hasn’t been in the classroom long enough for me to give a more detailed experience, but I will be sure to provide you with more feedback in the near future. I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I also have CC’d Ms. Jennifer Hanner on this, so she is also aware of all of these awesome people she leads. I hope that you and your team can see the amazing team that has been built here in Brooksville, and I hope you are able to keep these exceptional women on your team for years to come. They have an incredibly positive impact on our family’s life, and I’m sure many other families too. Thank you, Tonya Thomas
